Managing the costs of a health care facility

Context:

The management of costs has always played an important role in the management of health care facilities, even if it is not always formalized in the daily operations of the facility.

The management of costs impacts above all the allocation of resources within the facility.

For some years now, the development of DRG and more generally, the increasing sophistication of the pricing methods have made the active management of costs an indispensable tool.

Beyond pricing and billing, managers of health services improve the means of running their facility by integrating the techniques of cost management into their daily operations.

Objectives:

Learning to design, implement and operate a mechanism of cost management of health care institutions.

At the end of the training, the participant will know how to respond to the following questions:

  • What are the methods of cost management of health care facilities?
  • What is the role played by costs in the various stages of the management cycle of health care institutions?
  • How to reduce costs?
  • How to establish a cost budget?
  • How to establish fees and prices according to costs?
  • How to design, implement and operate a cycle of cost management?

Prerequisite:

It is recommended, even though it is not indispensable, that the participants follow the course « Calculating the costs of a health care facility ».
